Julia Bacon was one of the 150 known women artists who painted in the White Mountains from 1840-1940. This

painting is believed to be a scene in the Hudson River area in New York State. A nice piece even if not New

Hampshire.

Cherry Mounntain is a long and massive ridge in the Town of Carroll. The artist's signature on the front and verso

can be verified with that shown in "Who was Who in American Art 1564-1975". See additional photo in next record.

This classic view of Mt. Chocorua painted by many artists is from a hill to the south. Here, the view is also from the

south, but Champney positioned himself slightly to the right and achieves a different, wider view.

Pictured is an artist (possibly Dunning himself) at his easel painting with two ladies looking on. The location of the

scene is not known. Dunning painted in the Compton, New Hampshire area and research is needed to see if the

scene is in that locale.
